WATER METER REPLACEMENT PROGRAM
Dear Residents and Business Owners,
The Town of Stonewall in co-operation with the Manitoba Water Services Board (MWSB) will be undertaking a water meter replacement program tentatively scheduled to start Monday, February 13, 2017. Funding for this project will come from a combination of accumulated gas tax reserve and MWSB.
The Town of Stonewall has tendered and awarded this project to Patterson Mechanical Ltd. The contractor will be responsible for making any and all arrangements with the home owner or business owner to gain access to the property in order to complete this work. Residents will have a 2 week time period to call (204) 461-0035 and book an appointment with Patterson Mechanical Ltd. The contractor will have photo identification issued to them bearing their company name, logo and personal name. It is imperative that the Town of Stonewall has the full co-operation from all residents and businesses to facilitate this work to be done as this project must be substantially complete by April 28, 2017.
The replacement of residential water meters should take no more than 30 minutes per residential dwelling granted the water supply shut off valve inside the property is functioning. If the water supply shut off valve is inoperable, the contractor will freeze the water supply line and replace both the water supply shut off valve and water meter which could add extra time that is spent to remedy this.
The replacement of commercial water meters will likely take extra time as there is the potential that there may be plumbing work required to outfit the new water meter with the existing plumbing. Again, if the water supply shut off valve is operational, the replacement of the water meter should be relatively simple. If the water supply shut off valve is inoperable, then the water line will be frozen, and both the water supply shut off valve and water meter will be replaced.
The contractor for the Town of Stonewall will be replacing water supply shut off valves that are inoperable as a courtesy, but it is imperative that all residents and commercial business owners are aware that the water supply shut off valves are the responsibility of the property owner. There will be no cost to the property owner if the water supply shut off valve needs to be replaced.
The contractor will also be responsible to rectify any repairs that may arise after the new water meter has been installed and the contractor must be contacted directly to arrange this at 204-461-0035.
If any property owner has any questions, comments, concerns regarding this program, please feel free to call the Administration Office at 204-467-7979 and staff will do their best to answer.
